There is a huge race in the city with hundreds of competitors. I’m in the second group of competitors (sort of like in the city2surf). The first half of the race is a standard run on the roads. The second half is split into different terrain races. With each part f the race more and more people don’t make it to the next part because they are too slow. One part is through a dark tunnel where many slip and don’t make the time needed to get to the next part. The next is over moss covered rocks, they are a beautiful green and you have to jump and scramble to get to the finish. I continue through the parts until there are only a haldfull of competitors. We run from the moss rocks through a big field/park. It is a sunny day and many people have come for picnics, to play ball etc. They all watch us as we, the racers, maneuver through them to get to the other side of the park. I reach the finish first and breathing heavy see that only one other girl makes it in time to continue to the last part. We rest in a tent before the next part.
I get an 8 second head start because that’s how much faster I was than the other girl. The last part is started by a challenge. A pack of nerds (the lollies) gets emptied on a table and I have to sort them into their 2 colors before I can start running. The other girl starts 8 seconds after me but her trainer knocks the table so half the nerds fall on the floor so that she is faster. We start to run at roughly the same time. We run on soft grass, the terrain continues into a tram tunnel and through central station. The everyday people become the obstacles. We run up some stairs for the last part, lumping over homeless people and pigeons. Bursting out on a busy street we dodge through standing traffic and make it to the finish line. The other girl wins by half a second. A court case is assured because her trainer cheated. But I don’t care, panting I bend over and feel the hands clapping me on the back, cheers are all around.
