I am a student at a music college. 5 of us students walk down a stone slope to get to one of our lessons, out teacher will await us near a large waterfall. On the way I explain the laws of magic to a fellow student who missed the first semester. I explain that the body creates magic, however if we use up everything we have we will not be able to create more until someone gives us some to build on. It is possible to take magic from someone if both magicians have a cut and these are connected. This is also the way you can heal someone. It is very important to be aware of your own body and how much magic you have so you don’t use it all up. I explain that you shouldn’t let yourself get into a vulnerable position (such as sex) before you have a firm grip on your own magic and can ward off someone trying to leach off you. We discuss this merrily until we reach the platform where our teacher waits. He indicated a cave where we will have our lesson, but first we must choose if we are brave enough to walk further down the stone steps. The steps leading further down are covered in water from the waterfall. One of the students confidently walks down, but she slides on the 10th step and falls further down. Our teacher does nothing, one of the students that is her friend goes down slowly to help her friend. One of the male students argues that it is stupid to even attempt to go down. The second student reaches the first and helps her up. We all cheer as they start climbing back up. They slip again though and fall even further down, landing with a loud crack and slap. We start discussing what best to do when the last female student creates a floating disc and rides down to the others. She doesn’t touch the wet ground but grows the disc so the other two are also levitated. The second student is leaving other the first and healing her. All 3 ride up, past us and into the cave where the 3rd student gently lowers them onto the ground and then collapses into a couch and promptly falls asleep. Myself and the remaining two students give the second student our strength so she can heal the first. The rules discussed earlier run through my head but seem not to matter at present. I wonder if this is how magicians ruin themselves. Our teacher watches silently.
